• We will continue to prioritise climate change as an emergency, and we’ll strengthen our partnership work to make the borough carbon neutral as soon as possible before 2045. Our vision is that by 2045, all available land in West Cheshire will help towards tackling the climate and nature emergencies by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, storing residual emissions, and helping us to adapt to inevitable climatic changes.
  • We will lead the way in our borough by ensuring the Council is carbon neutral by 2030. We will set an example as a low carbon organisation by reducing the number of buildings we have and making the rest more energy efficient; purchasing our energy from renewable sources; reducing staff travel emissions through flexible working and alternative modes of transport; ensuring all our decisions consider the impact on climate change; purchasing goods and services from local organisations that demonstrate strong environmental credentials; using more energy efficient street lights; moving to a low emissions fleet of vehicles; offsetting the remainder of the Council’s emissions, and working with our staff to embed a more environmentally aware culture. We will also continue to invest in a specific team to co-ordinate our response to the climate emergency.
  • We will make good use of public communications and campaigns through monthly bulletins and social media, with ideas for change that include shopping local and eating more sustainable food.
  • We will play our part in national plans to be a net zero carbon country by 2050, and we will work with the current and future Governments to seek funding and powers to accelerate local action on tackling the climate and nature emergencies.
  • We will work with every community to raise awareness of the transition to Net Zero, and to encourage projects like community energy co-ops.
