Environmental protection from our waste

  • We will explore development of a commercial waste collection service for businesses, which has the same commitment to environmental sustainability and recycling as our residential waste service.
  • We already have high levels of recycling, and our household waste collection service has been recognised as the most carbon efficient in England for four out of the last five years, but we recognise that we cannot be complacent. The next phase of our plans will be to minimise waste and move towards a circular economy
  • We will work with Cheshire West Recycling to procure the most efficient and environmentally friendly fleet possible, including exploring purchasing electric or hydrogen vehicles.
  • We will end the use of avoidable single-use plastics in all council operations, including our offices, public buildings and council companies. We will also work with tenants in our properties and through our commissioning process and contracts to encourage organisations that we work with to reduce the use of unnecessary plastics.
  • We will build on the success of our food waste recycling process to create energy and tackle the climate emergency.
