• We will deliver our Fairer Future Strategy to take over 3,000 of our borough’s children out of poverty and put people with lived experience of poverty at the heart of local decision-making. Through our Poverty Truth Advisory Board, we will take the learning from our Poverty Truth Commissions to continue to work with partner organisations and local people to solve the root causes of poverty.

A Labour Government will deliver a Stronger, Fairer Future for all, with better jobs and better work and a future where families come first.

  • We will support the ‘right to food’ by continuing to fund local sustainable food and food poverty projects with our partners. We share the vision that nobody in West Cheshire should have to rely on foodbanks to provide food for themselves or their family, and we will continue to advocate for the use of more dignified models of support, and for welcoming spaces that are integrated with welfare advice services.
  • We will offer support through the summer holidays for families on free school meals, so people at risk of holiday hunger are able to access food and activities in a dignified way.
  • We will continue to fund the Help for Local People in Emergencies (HELP) scheme and other financial support programmes aimed at helping people on low incomes, this work will include providing discretionary payments to stop people from becoming homeless, and offering advice on food and fuel poverty, digital exclusion and advice on ways to reduce energy bills.
  • We will voluntarily adopt a Socio-Economic Duty within the Council and encourage partner organisations to do the same, so that anti-poverty thinking is embedded in our decision-making, and we can begin to address the inequalities that result from differences in occupation, education, place of residence and social class.
