Pride in our high streets

  • We will identify funding for Community Pride, which will support small town centre and high street projects that improve the look and feel of these places for people who live, work and visit them, and we will work with town and parish councils to support vibrant village centres too.
  • We will maximise the use of our heritage and culture assets to support the vibrancy of town centres and village centres in our borough, including looking at the importance of play and the safety of young children in these spaces. We will also review options for a new tourism tax, or a tourism BID to help fund marketing activity and to increase budgets for services that residents will benefit from, like street cleansing and general maintenance.
  • We will develop a register of landlords for empty shops so that we can work with owners to find a use for unoccupied space.
  • We will monitor our approach to car parking and will continue our commitment to having a unique approach in each town centre.
  • We will continue to deliver our digital signage strategy to help people with wayfinding and provide new opportunities for local businesses to advertise themselves
