• We will continue to work with Council-owned companies, other public sector organisations and our Anchor Network of the borough’s largest employers to promote ‘community wealth’. This includes using our spending power to procure through local supply chains so more of our money stays in our local economy. We will also encourage these partners to follow our example of using the principles of ‘social value’ in procurement so that the money we collectively spend has additional benefits of creating local jobs and training opportunities.
  • We will grow these partnerships with a shared vision for better economic development, which creates wealth whilst addressing poverty, tackling health inequalities and improving the way people feel about the area they live and the things it has to offer. All of this will be underpinned through the delivery of our Inclusive Economy Strategy.
  • We will measure the number of businesses in West Cheshire that share our values around fair employment for their staff, environmental sustainability and paying tax. We will share this information with residents so people can make informed choices about whether to support businesses that ‘do good’ in our borough.
  • We will work with Cheshire East and Warrington Council’s to secure more powers and funding from government through a devolution deal, so that decisions about our area are made here and not in Westminster.

The next Labour government will introduce a Take Back Control Bill so that local communities can have more control over the spending and a great say over the services in the area.

  • We will look for opportunities to position Cheshire West and Chester at the forefront of circular economy thinking. This will mean working with businesses and other organisations to support a move away from an economic model of ‘take, make, throw away’, to one where we design out waste and pollution through advanced recycling and re-use processes, and where we keep products and materials in use for as long as possible.
