• We will promote affordable and ethical access to financial services to avoid the need for payday loans and use of excessive credit agencies.
  • We will continue to fund the Help! Scheme (Help for Local People in Emergencies) so that residents have a someone to turn to in a crisis.
  • Through our regulatory services we will continue to work with residents and the police to identify scams and prosecute scammers.
  • We will work towards full adoption of the Money Advice Trust’s ‘Stop the Knock’ initiative which laid out six steps to improve debt collection practices and ensure that those who are most vulnerable receive additional support to meet their Council Tax liability.
  • We will publicise current access routes to debt advice and support and seek to monitor improvements or evidence of reduced reliance on unethical credit and problem debt within the borough and across the income spectrum.
