• We will review and adapt our network of mobile library routes to reach out to more communities and bring access to other council services and those of our partners near to where people live.
  • We will ensure that our libraries are welcoming and safe spaces for people of all ages, with opportunities for fun activities and learning as well as different groups for people to enjoy. Our vision for our library service, both mobile and in buildings, is that they provide space for different services to come together in one place to create a vibrant community hub.
  • We will continue to remove fines for late books from children under 13 and will consider extending this further so that library members can enjoy books for as long as they are needed and without fear of reprise.
  • We will also continue with our Bookstart programme and library card offer for all children in the borough and increase the number of adults taking part in reading challenges.
  • The Council owns over 150 buildings that are being used by communities. We will transform how some of these facilities are run by transferring some of these assets to community groups and town and parish councils, where this is feasible and where it presents an opportunity for grants and new income that the council cannot access.
