Pride in our neighbourhoods
- We will continue to develop our Neighbourhood Pride pilot, which has been used to finance small projects in electoral wards to improve the area for the people that live there.
- We will enhance our Streetcare Pledge to include a ‘Gully Guarantee’ so that people can identify information on the regularity of cleansing where they live. We will offer a Cemetery Contract, so that maintenance regimes are visibly advertised in each cemetery location and options for raising issues are clearly promoted to visitors. We will maintain a network of community gritting bins in partnership with town and parish councils that wish to participate, so that they can be accessed in priority locations around shops and other services, and where clear instructions on how communities can use them is provided. We will use data reported by residents to target resources from a new Pavement Restoration Programme and we will deliver the second phase of our Streetcare pledge, allowing communities to apply for specific funding to finance projects that will improve the area where they live – including wildflower planting.
- We will implement the harshest possible enforcement regime to tackle littering and fly-tipping, including implementing a series of measures that will highlight lawbreaking and punish offenders. We will also explore offering a chargeable service for fly-tipping and graffiti removal from private property to support community pride, and we will look at how we can use control orders to empower communities to enforce fines for dog fouling through delegation of powers to town and parish councils.
- We will make it easier for residents to report issues like potholes, missed bin collections and fly tipping through (the Council website and our mobile app). We will improve the functionality to give confidence that reports are being dealt with in a timely way, and we will explore the possibility of using push notifications to gather information from residents about the services we provide. We will also fund a rapid response to act on street cleansing issues in communities.
- We will tackle anti-social behaviour through stronger partnership working with emergency services because we recognise that feeling safe in your neighbourhood is important to quality of life. We will continue to support police and community support officers to tackle serious and organised crime, and we will build on our Public Space Protection Order to add protections from sexual harassment against women and girls.
