• We will refresh the local transport plans for our borough to make sure they are relevant and are supportive of residents’ priorities for improved connectivity and in response to the climate emergency. This will include identifying safe cycle routes for accessing places of work and education and increasing options for electric vehicle hire. We will continue to fight for new powers to improve bus services, and until we have more control of these services, we will continue to build partnerships with current providers. Providing cross-ticketing solutions to multi-modal transport journeys will be a fundamental ambition in our strategy, allowing public transport to be the simplest and cheapest way to get where you need to go.

The next Labour government will bring in new powers for communities to take back control of bus transport in their area and we will bring the railways back into public control.

The next Labour government will introduce a Take Back Control Bill, devolving funding and powers to local authorities for areas like Transport.

  • We will reform Chester’s Park and Ride service so that it is also a fast and efficient system for the city, which connects neighbourhoods to the city in the same way it connects people travelling to Chester by car directly into the city.
  • We will make sure that local rail services are properly promoted for investment, including services such as the mid-Cheshire line, the Wrexham-Bidston line, Winsford to Crewe, Winsford to Warrington, and Hooton to Liverpool, and Hooton to Helsby. We will also continue to make the case for investment in integrated transport infrastructure, as well as specific rail projects such as Northern Powerhouse Rail, HS2 and opportunities around ‘third rail’, to connect our borough with economic centres across the North and the wider country. We also want to see the delivery of major transport improvements into North Wales as part of the Growth Track 360 programme.
  • We will extend our network of bus stops which show real time bus information beyond our main transport hubs out to the suburbs, so that passengers can see clear information about the services they rely on.
  • We will work with our neighbours in Wales and across the North West region to maximise the benefits connectivity through collaboration on public transport projects.
