• We will declare a ‘Mental Health Emergency’ and use the same model we have used for the climate emergency and the poverty emergency, to bring public services, the community sector and the faith sector together, to support collaboration, to understand the impact of key decisions on mental health, and to create a local response to this crisis in the absence of government intervention. Mental health should have the same recognition as physical health and the next Labour government will redress this imbalance.
  • We will invest in prevention, advice and guidance, and greater integration with NHS mental health services, and we will champion innovative ideas like the Cheshire and Wirral Wellbeing Hub and the Crisis Cafe model.
  • We will continue our programme of work to reduce the number of suicides in the borough through our ‘No More Suicide Strategy’. This will include suicide bereavement support, mental health promotion, and supporting people with lived experience of suicide to become involved in helping others.
  • We will use social prescribing to support people experiencing common mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. This will include access to council owned leisure facilities and referrals to our award-winning Natural Health Service, which encourages people to enjoy outdoor activities in our Borough’s parks and green spaces.
  • We will take action to support young people with their emotional and mental health and to reduce stigma and bullying.
